IN what has been described as a "unique experiment", businesses are being invited to take a step into the digital age with a free technology makeover.

The ambitious new scheme will see the council and O2 deliver the St Helens 'Digital Communities' programme designed to help local businesses and individuals discover more about the benefits of modern technology.

Those eligible businesses will receive a free consultation from O2's specialists who will then match them with technology best suited to their needs.

All of the products and services on offer, which range from 4G connectivity and smart devices, to digital services such as Office 365, McAfee and Bow, will be completely free for three months.

Businesses will also be given advice on how best to capitalise on social media and digital marketing tools to attract new customers and drive sales.

They will also be given the opportunity to provide feedback on the technology they are using and share their information with other businesses taking part.

Council leader Barrie Grunewald welcomed the news, stating: "We believe our partnership with O2 is a huge step forward in bringing St Helens into the digital age and will provide real benefits for residents and local businesses alike.

"We'd love to see local businesses sign up for a digital makeover and take part in this unique experiment so they can see for themselves how technology can power growth in their businesses."
